Let’s take a closer look at this beast of a salad.
What is a Detox salad?
A detox salad combines all the best foods: these are foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, etc. while having purifying qualities that rid the body of harmful toxins and free radicals – and puts them in a giant bowl.
Common detox foods include:
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! For a more complete list, check out this Ultimate List of Detox Diet Foods; it’s one of my favorite resources. Detox foods play various roles in cleansing the body and eliminating toxins, as well as being among the most nutrient-dense foods.
Recommended Ingredients and Equipment
This detox salad has 15 detoxifying foods it can leave you feeling refreshed and energized, making it the ULTIMATE detox salad.
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Kale – Kale is my kale of choice for this salad, but any kale will do.
- Olive oil
- Vegetables -I like to use a mixture of red cabbage, carrots, avocado, green onions, broccolini and radishes. These are all highly detoxifying foods, but any of them can easily be replaced with other vegetables or omitted.
- Herbs – Fresh mint and coriander.
- Sun-flower seeds – You can also use sesame seeds, pine nuts or pumpkin seeds.
- Lemon-ginger vinaigrette – This is a homemade salad dressing that includes olive oil, lemon juice, freshly grated ginger, garlic, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, turmeric , salt and pepper. To save time, you can look for lemon vinaigrette at the store.
For this recipe, you will need basic kitchen equipment, including mixing bowls and cooking utensils. You will also need a large salad bowl, a chef’s knife and a cutting board. (<

How to Make the Ultimate Detox Salad
Not only is this salad packed with nutrient-dense foods that will make you feel good, but this salad is also SUPER EASY to make. It can be prepared in just about 10 minutes for a healthy and filling midday meal.
Step One – Massage the Kale
To eat raw kale, it is important to give it a light massage. A simple massage helps remove harshness and bitterness while releasing sweetness and tenderness in the leaves, greatly improving flavor and texture.
To massage it, finely chop the kale and place it in a large bowl. Then drizzle it with a little olive oil and salt. I also like to add lemon here for added flavor, but it’s not necessary. The oil and salt help break down the toughness of the leaf, allowing it to soften even more.
As you massage the kale, you will notice the leaves become a brighter green with a bit of silky shine. The kale will also decrease in volume as the leaves soften. (See photos above)
Step Two – Remaining Ingredients
Add the rest of the ingredients. It’s all vegetables, sunflower seeds and fresh herbs.
Feel free to get creative here. Feel free to swap vegetables and herbs for alternatives. Simply reference your List of detox diet foods for alternatives.
Step Three – Add the lemon-ginger vinaigrette.
Now let’s talk about this dressing for a moment. The dressing contains 3 IMPORTANT detoxifying ingredients – it’s ginger, lemonAnd turmeric – making it one of the BEST detox salad dressings. Here are some benefits of these amazing foods:
Ginger – Ginger is full of antioxidants, stimulates digestion and circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and free radicals, has mega anti-inflammatory properties, lowers blood sugar and cholesterol.
Lemon – Lemon is packed with vitamin C for a powerful immunity booster, improves digestive health, aids digestion and helps control weight.
Turmeric – Turmeric is one of the best-known anti-inflammatories that helps kill free radicals and improve overall health. It’s full of antioxidants, good for the heart, skin and brain, and is even thought to help fight depression.
With these three detoxifiers, you have a powerful salad dressing. Prepare the dressing by mixing the ingredients until smooth, creamy, and pourable. Once mixed, add it to the salad and mix everything together.
Serve and store
Serve the salad immediately. It’s a big salad. On its own, it is enough for 2 servings. It will serve 4 if you serve it as part of a larger meal.
Storing Leftover Salad refrigerate for up to 1 day. Store the dressing separately for up to 2 weeks.
